Atomic Timeline The Alchemists (500BC-1700BC) The study of Alchemy first began with Aristotle’s idea that all matter was composed of earth, water, fire, and air. It became a foundation for modern sciences, especially chemistry. The main goal of the Alchemists was to find a way to change ordinary metals into precious one such as gold and silver.
